Easter Sunday 2019

From your Pastor;

For My people have committed two evils; They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, to hew for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns that can hold no water. Jeremiah 2:13

   What has happened in Jeremiah’s day? The people turned their backs to God. They treated Him as one lifeless and not necessary. Now they had put their hope in things that were useless, broken, and unproductive.

   Being from Oklahoma, we all know what a cistern is. And if it is broken, it has lost all its meaningful purpose,

along with all the labor it took to dig and construct it.

This biblical image God is showing Israel, would be like you and I having a car and paying for it and insurance, then not being able to drive it because it is broken.

   Let alone the people turning their backs to God, they also have displayed ingratitude. This is one of man’s ugliest traits. In the book of Hosea the prophet of God, his wife leaves him and returns to her prostitution and adultery. Why would one leave the care, love, and life of a giving spouse to return to chaos, abuse and hopelessness? Yet, that is what she did, and that is what Israel did, and that is what man is doing to God today.

   This is why Scripture is eternally relevant. Because these problems are not new, they are the result of our sinful nature. When a person chooses sin over grace they have turned their back to the loving Father who desires to save and rescue them.

   Today we celebrate the “Resurrection” of Jesus. But let us not forget the days and moments leading up to this resurrection. First, He had to lay down His life, in order to bring you and I an opportunity for life; True life, unbroken life, everlasting life!!!

   You can be as Israel and dig and build cisterns for yourself, which will eventually break. Or, you can come to God and drink from the fountain of living waters.

                                                                                            The choice is yours!

Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’”
