“Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also, and whoever takes away you coat,

do not withhold your shirt from him either.”  Luke 6:29

At least half, if not more of our lives are lived in reactions. People talk and we feel unhappy; or they talk and we become angry; this is reaction. Someone does something and we consider it wrong this too is reaction. We become irritated when provoked, we defend ourselves when misunderstood, we endure when ill-treated, these are all reactions.

By observing how a person reacts we can discern who he is. A Christian should not have un-Christian reactions, and a non-Christian can not have true Christian reactions. Believers reactions should differ from those of other people.

The Lord teaches us how we should react and then gives the power to do it. We should no longer react as we please. True Christians are under the control of God. If God is controlling your reactions, you will not react freely. As He commands us, so we will react. It is His life within us the life He has given us that does the reacting...

What then is the Christian reaction? It is not to do the right thing, nor to do the good thing, but it is to do the higher thing. The more a child of God is persecuted or oppressed  the higher he climbs. How sad it is, to see so many so called Christians turn from God the first time they are squeezed. The time that you are pressed against the wall is the time for you to rise up!!! Don’t react with bitterness towards your Heavenly Father. It is He who loves you, who saves you, who reacts in your place. It is He who took our shame and remorse, and exchanged it for His gift of everlasting life.

“Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”  Matthew 5:10
