From your Pastor;

 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved).

                                                           Ephesians 2:4-5

       We often focus on the future grace we will receive when Jesus returns. The invitation time at church seems to stress this to everyone. “Put your faith in Jesus, receive His grace and you can spend eternity in heaven with Him.” Yes, this is true. However for today take another look at the context of v 4-5. We find there was a lot more wrong with us than just the placement of our faith in God’s grace.

     In v. 1-3 we read;   And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desire of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.

     So we followed after Satan, lived in the desire of our flesh, and we behaved as we wished. But, because of God’s great love, we are no longer slaves to self, sin, or Satan. We are no longer dead in our trespasses. We are now made alive in Christ!  It is only by God’s grace that we can follow and obey His commandments, no longer being carried away by the world. God’s grace is not only for the future. It has made a way for us here, now - in this life.

     Today we gather together to celebrate the grace of God, found in His Son Jesus the Christ. This calls for rejoicing wouldn’t you say?
